Over the years, distributor and store image requirements have become increasingly detailed and demanding. Retailers like Walmart and organizations like 1WorldSync (GDSN) now require up to ten photos of each item from various angles, making manual packaged food photography a tedious and time-consuming task. To address this, we began exploring automated and semi-automated photography systems and ultimately chose Ortery.

Ortery has a large product range, and we went with their Infinity 2000 and a DualView 600, making it possible for us to capture two rows of 360 images at the same time. The software’s ability to automatically remove backgrounds during capture was a significant advantage. While Ortery’s pricing was mid-range, their perpetual software license made it a standout choice, ensuring longevity and value. We expect to use this setup for at least 10 years.

Implementing the new system did upend our original workflow and required initial adjustments to fine-tune the cameras and turntable movements to fit our specific image needs. I have been using it for more than one year now, we have had no issues with the machine’s operation, and the USB connections have been perfectly reliable. Tasks that previously took three hours now take just 20 minutes, including capturing dual-view 360° shots and saving a subset of high-resolution images on transparent backgrounds. While we still use Photoshop for touch-ups like removing "best by" dates or blemishes, the system handles the bulk of the work, making packaged food photography faster and more efficient than ever.
